15th December 2008: Windows Live Messenger 2009 v14 (v9.0) released.
15th February 2008: Windows Live Messenger 8.50 final released.
5th September 2007: Windows Live Messenger Beta 2 released.

Microsoft announced that their new version of Microsoft's IM Client Messenger would not be going from v8 to v9.0 as expected. Instead Windows Live Messenger 2009 is now at version 14.0. This brings it inline with the other Windows Live programs.

If you have Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista then there's no reason why you shouldn't be using the new Windows Live Messenger 2009.

Windows 2000 users will need to locate MSN Messenger 7.0, as neither version 7.5, 8.x or 9 are compatible with Windows 2000.

Preorder PSP Go

Sony have set the launch date for the PSP Go as 1st October 2009, although the price is steeper than expected, we think the PSP Go will fly from the shelves as people clammer to get the latest and greatest gaming gadget from Sony.

Voice Call
Windows Live Call is Microsoft's new voice over IP service (VOIP). With Windows Live Call you can make voice calls to people across the country or the world on their regular telephones and save big money on phone calls. PC to PC voice calls are still free by the way. This seems to be aimed at the North American market as this service requires a subscription with MCI on a pay as you go basis. If this service is successful in NA, expect to see this rolled out globally as Microsoft are not ones to miss out on a money making opportunity.

Windows Live Messenger - Unified Contacts
Unified Contacts is a new feature of Windows Live Messenger that combines your Windows Mail address book with your Windows Live Messenger contact list. In Windows Live Messenger, contacts from your address book are automatically created in your contact list. You can add and edit address book contacts in Windows Live Messenger. If you have the right information entered for the contact, you can email and call these contacts using Windows Live Messenger.

Note: as with v7.50 this version of messenger will not run on windows 2000 and you will need to have IE6 SP1 or later installed. Although Internet Explorer does not have to be your default browser.

• Multimedia PC Pentium 233 MHz process (500 MHz recommended)

• Minimum 64 MB of RAM (124 MB recommended)
• Up to 50 MB of hard disk space needed to install. After install, up to 15 MB may be needed
